KinderBach is a keyboard-based music program that gives younger children (ages 3-4) the edge with a solid music foundation and takes advantage of the musical window in brain development. It enhances reading readiness, math, and language skills. KinderBach uses a method of pre-staff reading in the beginning that easily transforms into staff reading later.

KinderBach has a low student/teacher ratio with 1-4 students per class. The program uses playful characters to teach note reading, rhythm, singing, and composition. It is a simple approach - learning is gradual and is made fun with reinforcement throughout the lessons. If a child misses a lesson, they are easily able to step right back in.
It is not necessary to purchase expensive pianos or keyboards for your preschooler. All the children need is something that has the black and white keys (preferably the regular size of keys, not miniature keys). Electric keyboards are fine. If you already have a piano or keyboard…great! You can start KinderBach keyboard classes right away. Joining with a friend is especially fun although the social aspect of meeting new friends is beneficial too!
Six areas of music development in KinderBach include:
1. Ear or Listening Skills: Beginning with the range of sound from high to low and loud to quiet, and recognition and duplication of melodies and rhythm which are essential for playing by ear.
2. Sight or Note Reading: Recognizing the letter names of the individual keys on the keyboard, reading notes on staff, patterns and direction of music. This area is not just note reading but reading in general. We are assigning a sound to a visual symbol.
3. Rhythm: Understanding the beat value and rhythm of notes.
4. Hand Position or Technique (playing the keyboard): Understanding the keyboard finger numbering system, differentiating between left and right hands, and strengthening fine motor skills. Proper hand position at the keyboard is introduced and modeled.
5. Singing: Vocalizing music adds to the pleasure of music education. Singing is an essential building block for playing by ear.
6. Composition: Guidance in using the tools and skills learned to create music. The composition area of the KinderBach curriculum teaches the student not to simply copy or recite music but to create it, making music a true outlet for artistic expression.
